Founded in 2015, Cognistx is a Pittsburgh-based applied AI company, building multistrategy AI systems for businesses across the U.S. We create AI-powered computer systems that can sense, learn, and act. Our founders are pioneers in the fields of automatic question-answering, speech processing, computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and applied machine learning. We are able to efficiently combine and customize the best advanced technologies — our AI building blocks — to create applications that extract meaningful insights to produce measurable impact for our clients.
Pioneers in Artificial Intelligence
Our co-founder, Dr. Eric Nyberg, is a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. Dr. Nyberg has worked on a broad range of AI applications — automatic language understanding, translation, and generation; advanced information retrieval and ranking; automatic question-answering systems — since the 1980s. As a member of the original IBM Watson development team, he helped develop a multi-strategy question answering systems, as well as specific techniques (e.g. statistical answer scoring, structured/semantic retrieval, statistical source expansion) used by Watson in the Jeopardy! Challenge.
At Cognistx, we take a similar approach to solving customer challenges — we design advanced, multi-strategy AI software systems that deliver optimal combinations of state-of-the-art technologies to achieve desired information system performance.
By using AI to assist our financial institution in sifting through thousands of loan applications, we were able to save valuable time and focus on qualified loans. The team at Cognistx distilled the goals of the $25 million fund, offered insights that we had not considered and then created value added business rules that were critical to the speed and success of the program.
